3rd Lesson - Adding Highlights

With a fine brush, I dabbed the tops of the clouds with varying colours of very light orange to white.  Put the rich, light oranges against the darker areas of the sky and the lighter dabs against the lighter areas of the sky.  In the middle of the canvas where the sun is shining in between the clouds, pure white is needed in order to see the light.  With a mid-tone orange you can brush across some of the clouds while it is dry and smudge some orange light here and there in the clouds to break them up a bit.  The light oranges tend to be quite transparent against the dark clouds, so we will leave them for now and go over it again when it is dry.
