How To Oil Paint - Ask Barb - "Three Rivers California"

My family and I travelled through the west coast of America way back in 2007.  We found this beautiful little town called Three Rivers on our way towards Death Valley in California.  I love the play of light on the rocks and the golden colours.  It is a painting in itself!  This will be a challenge as there is a lot of detail and a delicate balance of colour and tone.

I drew in the horizon to start with - I always do with a landscape.  I then added the mountains.  I found it was easier to draw the biggest rocks first and get them in a nice compositional balance, then fill in the rest later.
