"The Thinker"

So this is my second portrait in coloured pencils.  This time I decided to try a black and white theme.  It was a good lesson in tonal values (without relying on colour) and also of how to blend in the subtle differences in tone to achieve a realistic look.

I'm still just sketching on 110gsm paper which is not strong enough to hold all the pencil and burnishing and has crinkled a bit.  Now I know why you need a 300gsm paper!  Next time ...

  1. This is just so beautiful Barb! I love it! Kudos to you for branching out and trying something new and outside your comfort zone! Your efforts have certainly paid off... The brightly coloured butterflies are a masterful touch! Great work!
